VISIONS OF CYCLING 2.0

Visions of Cycling 2.0 is the last in a long line of books that Graham has produced over the past forty years. His first ever solo work was Visions of Cycling, published in 1989, that introduced the cycling world to the goings on behind the world's biggest races. Using colourful and previously unseen photography, Graham told us how the races worked, how victories were fought over by the sport's superstars, how photographers also fought to get the best shots, all of this set against a backdrop of wondrous scenery and landscapes. 'Visions 2.0' gives a slightly different slant on the sport, drawn entirely from Graham's personal experiences. The author details his early days as a portrait photographer and how his understanding of light, composition and anticipation was successfully transferred to cycling photography in the late 1970s. Graham talks fondly of famous cyclists he met along the way like Sean Kelly, Greg LeMond, Lance Armstrong, and Bradley Wiggins. And media colleagues like Phil Liggett and the late Paul Sherwen.

Graham became an avid traveller during his forty years 'on the road', he even admits that at times he was unsure whether the lifestyle that ensued was the prime motivating factor in his career, more than the love of photography. Part of that lifestyle was a brief attempt to add ski photography to his portfolio, cycling in the summer, skiing in the winter, before realising that the pull of cycling was far too great to be doing anything else at all.

VISIONS OF CYCLING 2.0

Graham worked for the governing body of cycling, the UCI, for over sixteen years. He describes many of the adventures he had while working for the Swiss based organisation. A seasoned traveller, Graham makes it clear that Spain was his favourite country to visit and work in, and that the Tour de France, while acknowledging its glorious history and appeal, is a very different monument to the one he first worked on in a professional capacity in the 1980s. In producing this latest book, Graham has dug deep into his archive to find rarely seen or completely unseen imagery amongst its 170 photographs. Racing shots, off beat humour, glorious scenery and evocative black and white images all form part of Graham's latest presentation. The extended captions that accompany all the images serve to explain the photographer's thoughts behind each shot.

Visions of Cycling 2.0 is a book that Graham was extremely motivated to produce, ten years into his retirement. This new title bookends his life and career so perfectly.
