The Tour saw Olano keen to help Rominger - if not himself - and the climb to Les Arcs saw Olano setting a brutal pace behind escaper Luc Leblanc. Olano wasn't to know that this very pace had killed-off Miguel Indurain who'd been dropped halfway up the climb to the finish....had Olano suddenly learnt to climb? Bjarne Riis, in 3rd-place here, obviously thought so...
